The advantages of Virgin Coconut Oil

1- Similar with mother's milk.

2- For mothers who breast-fed their child, taking Virgin Coconut Oil as part of her nutrition will discover that the levels of lauric acid and capric acid increase significantly.(see detailed information Removal Impact of Virgin Coconut Oil to lactating mother)
3-Anti Oxide (Protect or prolonging the life of cells)

4-Antivirus and antibacterial.
Lauric acid in virgin coconut oil which is a 'medium chain fatty acid' is highly useful to form monolaurin in human or animal body. Monolaurin is antiviral, antibacterial and antiprotozoal. Monoglyceride is used by the human body or animals to destroy the lipid layer or cone of the virus, such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, and a variety of pathogen bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori, and protozoan such as giardia lamblia. Some surveys also show that it functions as an antimicrobial.

The antiviral action in monolaurin is it can dilute lipid layer and phospholipids in cone or virus envelope  that cause damage on the virus envelope. So that, it is easier for fatty acid and monoglycerides to destroy the double layer plasma membrane of the organism.

Regarding to latest study, it shows that the impact of antimicrobial monolaurin is related with the disruption on the signal of the cell mechanism organism for replication.

5- Increase metabolism in human body

6- Classified as functional food.
According to ILSI NORTH AMERICA SPECIAL CONFERENCE functional food defined as food that supply the nutritious component for health and energy. There are 50% of the fatty acid in VCO contains lauric acid, and 6% to 7% of it is capric acid.

Lauric acid is a ‘medium chain fatty acid’ that is really useful as an additional function to form monolaurin in human’s and animal’s body. Monolaurin acts as antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride to destroy the lipid layer or lipid cone of virus in human’s or animal’s body, such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, pathogen (listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori), and protozoa (giardia lamblia). There are some surveys that are also show that monolaurin functions as an antimicrobial.

Besides, capric acid is also one of the 'medium chain fatty acid' that has the same function when it forms as monocaprin.  Monocaprin is also acts as antiviral on HIV, and its effect on herpes simplex and its antibacterial effect on chlamydia are still in experiment process. (Reuters, London June 29,1999).
Dr. Halldor Thormar, Icelandic's scientist, had shown that monolaurin that originate from virgin coconut oil, could kill the ‘lipid coated DNA and RNA virus type, including HIV and herpes virus and also other microorganism including bacteria from positive germs type. Now, Dr.  Halldor Thormar and his team planned to continue their study on the functions and effects of monocaprin on chlamydia and herpes simplex virus.
